The 2019-20 school year is well underway. I would like to share some updates on the progress of the capital building project as it stands today. The project, as you are aware, is the voter approved building project to update and replace several “worn out” and “past their useful life” components of our building. To date, we have replaced the roof, tennis courts, front drive, and the Mary S. Brigg’s Elementary School parking lot. We have also upgraded the HVAC system in the Elementary school. It will now connect to the Geo-thermal system installed in the main building during the 2010 building project. We are still putting finishing touches on new lockers, entrance glass, and display cases in the main hallway.
The “new” improvements are coming along as well. We are working on re-creating the “old” gymnasium into a modern auditorium with modern gymnasium features. We plan on completion being shortly after the holidays. The STEM and computer labs are almost complete as our students gear up for robotics and other technological opportunities. We also added fencing around the playground. This gives our elementary student’s protection from the parking area as well as a secure perimeter making it easier for staff to monitor.
Over the next few years, we have planned out
several $100,000 capital outlay projects. These are small projects that are
already worked into the budget. We are aided back on these projects at 77.5%. In the next few years, these projects will remove
carpets in the elementary, replace sinks and counters, and put new flooring in
every elementary classroom.
We are planning technology and security upgrades through the New York State Smart Schools grant. We will be renovating the Pre K classroom through this grant “at no cost” to the District. There will also be security upgrades made to the front vestibule.
Unrelated to these projects, the
District painted the bus garage over the summer and replaced the pavement directly
in front of the bay doors. Your support is vital in every decision that is made
to make these improvements to our school for your children. Remember, this is
your building. The tennis courts have new baskets and pickle ball courts. The
auditorium can hold state of the art shows and our playground is safe for those
wanderers that we have among us. Go
Wildcats!!!
